Why It Matters

Re-tear risk is real. Data lowers it.

Returning to sport too early — or without symmetry between legs — is one of the biggest drivers of ACL re-injury. We don’t guess. We measure strength, power, and movement symmetry with force plates and dynamometers, and we clear you only when the numbers say you’re ready.

  • Objective force-plate & dynamometer testing, not a calendar
  • Limb-symmetry benchmarks before any return to play
  • Neuromuscular retraining to rebuild confidence
  • Progressive benchmarking — we meet you at your ability and build up

For Young & Elite Athletes

We understand the athlete, not just the knee

Coming back from an ACL tear is as much mental as physical — especially for young athletes. Our DPTs are trained to manage every stage, from the early post-surgical weeks through high-level return, rebuilding both the knee and the confidence to trust it.

  • Experience with soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse & more
  • Support for the emotional side of a long recovery
  • Coordination with your surgeon’s protocol
  • A clear, honest timeline you can plan around

Questions, Answered

ACL therapy & return to sport — FAQ

How long does ACL rehab take before returning to sport?

Most athletes return to sport between 9 and 12 months after ACL reconstruction, but the timeline is individual. At One Nine we use force-plate and strength testing to clear you based on objective limb symmetry and movement quality — not just the calendar.

When should I start ACL physical therapy after surgery?

Rehab typically begins within days of surgery to control swelling and restore motion early. The sooner you start a structured program, the better your long-term outcome. We coordinate with your surgeon’s protocol.

What is force-plate testing and why does it matter for ACL recovery?

Force plates objectively measure how much force each leg produces and absorbs. They reveal strength and landing asymmetries you can’t feel — the exact gaps linked to re-injury — so we can clear you to return only when both legs are truly ready.

Can you treat my ACL even if I had surgery elsewhere?

Yes. Many of our ACL patients had surgery elsewhere and come to One Nine specifically for return-to-sport rehab. We’ll review your surgical protocol and build your program from where you are today.

Do you treat ACL injuries without surgery?

Some ACL injuries can be managed non-operatively depending on the tear and your goals. We’ll assess your knee and, in coordination with your physician, build the right rehab plan for your situation.
